About Off Grid Engineering
Off Grid Engineering is a one-man business, and that’s deliberate. The person who designs your system is the person who installs it, and the person who picks up the phone afterwards. No sales team, no sub-contractors, no hand-offs.
Founded in 2020 in Barry, South Wales. Over 100 off-grid systems installed across the UK since, most of them still reporting in to us every day.

I’m a qualified electrician across domestic, commercial, industrial and marine work, and I’ve been installing solar since 2010, when I took the photovoltaics qualification at the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth. Several hundred PV systems later, off-grid is the work I chose to specialise in.
In the early days of off-grid, a strong background in marine electrics was essential — a boat is an off-grid system that moves, with the same batteries, inverters and charging to get right, and no grid to fall back on if you get it wrong. That grounding still comes in handy today, whether it’s a house with no mains supply or a business site running on generators.
I’m a Victron Energy authorised installer, a BYD battery partner and NAPIT registered. Beyond the solar and batteries, the parts of the job I care about most are the ones that make a system reliable: generator integration and auto-start, UPS-style backup for critical loads, and the monitoring that lets me see a problem before you do.
How we work
Sized from your real loads
Every design starts with what the property or site actually uses, not a roof estimate or a rule of thumb. Yield comes from PVGIS data for your postcode.
Honest about whether it’s right for you
If a mains connection is available at modest cost, we’ll tell you to take it. If a generator site won’t pay back, we’ll say so before you spend anything.
Monitored after it’s installed
Every system reports in through Victron VRM. We see what it’s doing, and when something needs attention we usually know first.
