Who this is for

We design and install complete power systems for properties that will never have a mains supply — or where the quote to get one is higher than the cost of going independent.

Barn conversions
A building with no existing supply, or a single-phase feed that will not carry a finished house. Usually the power question arrives late, after the roof and the layout are settled.
New builds and self-builds
A plot with no connection, or a DNO quote that has come back at a number nobody expected. Better solved at design stage than after first fix.
Remote rural properties
Far enough from the network that a connection means a long trench, a way-leave negotiation, or both.
Where the DNO quote is the problem
If a connection is available at sensible money, we will usually tell you to take it. Off-grid earns its place when the alternative is genuinely expensive.

How we size a system

Most quotes start with a roof and work backwards. We start with what the building has to run, because that is what decides whether the lights stay on in January.

1
Your loads, itemised
Every appliance, pump, heat source and circuit the property will actually run — not a rule of thumb. This is the number everything else depends on.
2
Yield for your postcode
Solar output modelled with PVGIS for your exact location, roof pitch and orientation, month by month — including the December figure, which is the one that matters.
3
The generator’s job
Sized so a generator is a backup you rarely hear, not a machine you depend on. On many of our sites it runs a handful of hours a year.
4
What it costs, and why
A specified system with the reasoning attached, so you can check it or hand it to someone else to check.

What these systems cost

A complete off-grid system for a house — solar array, battery bank, inverters, generator integration, switchgear, installation, certification and monitoring — typically starts at £24,000, and runs to £60,000 or more for larger properties with heat pumps or workshops.

We are saying that here rather than three phone calls in, because it saves everyone time. If your budget is well below that, we are not the right firm and we would rather you knew now.

And if a mains connection is available to you at reasonable cost, take it. We will tell you so.

What a system includes

✓
Solar array — roof or ground mounted, sized to your winter demand, not your summer one
✓
Battery storage — lithium iron phosphate, sized for real autonomy through poor weather
✓
Inverter/chargers — Victron, single or three phase, sized to your actual peak load
✓
Generator integration — automatic start and stop, so it runs only when genuinely needed
✓
Switchgear and distribution — full installation, tested and certified to BS 7671
✓
Remote monitoring — live and historical data; most faults diagnosed without a site visit
✓
Handover and training — you understand your own system before we leave
✓
Warranty — workmanship plus manufacturer cover on every major component

Put the power in first, not last

On most builds the power question gets left until first fix. By then the site has run for months on a hired generator — hire charges, fuel deliveries, servicing and someone driving out to refuel it — and that money is gone.

It does not have to work that way. A ground-mounted array and plant room do not need a finished roof, so the system can be commissioned early and run the build itself. The same system that powers the cement mixer becomes the permanent supply to the house.

1
At planning stage
Tell us the plot and the intended building. We can size the system from the drawings and tell you whether off-grid is the right answer before you commit to anything.
2
Early in the build
Array, plant room, battery and generator go in and are commissioned. The site has proper three-phase or single-phase power from that point on.
3
Through the build
The trades run off it. No hire charges, no fuel runs, no generator noise for the neighbours to complain about.
4
At handover
Final connections into the house and you move into a property that already has a working, monitored power system with a track record.

Worth doing before you decide: add up what you expect to spend on generator hire, fuel and servicing across the whole build. For a long project it is rarely a small number, and it is money that buys you nothing at the end of it.

Why people choose us
We are the engineers, not a sales office
You speak to the person who designs the system. Victron authorised installer and direct importer, qualified across domestic, commercial, industrial and marine work. Over 100 systems live on our monitoring platform.

Power on site before the house is built

On this site the off-grid system went in first. There is no house yet and will not be for months — but the build crew have power, and the property will never need a grid connection.

Tell us about your project

The more you can tell us, the more useful our first reply will be. It takes a couple of minutes.

We will come back to you by email or phone, whichever you prefer. No obligation, and if we think off-grid is the wrong answer for your site we will say so.
